  1. Nods Yeah. For the first 40 years of life, I took this kind of feeling seriously and let it overwhelm me. Now I just get up whether I have the energy, ignore the feeling, and do what I would choose if I felt better...
  2. Oh! That is SO true for so many people! The trap of which to be aware Consuming another on the altar of self...
  3. I hear music in this lament... In the last stanza, perhap "My sorrow is" or "My sorrow's"?
  4. Maybe you're inside looking out Through a filmy filter of Need Overwhelming at first response Heart hot and willing to bleed Love often slips up unaware When you're looking at some other You think you need a thundering storm Sometimes it's a gentle cover If you hold your hand out flat Water flees and flows away If you clench into a fist Water cannot stay. Sometimes love is like that.
  5. I hear music as I read this. suggested last line, You're better off than Eddie White. It's pieces like this which make me wish I had more time to spend at the Pen reading... -Peredhil
  6. What a great piece on the confusion of a wounded Self. Hugs Welcome to the Pen - sit back, enjoy, and - I give you permission to let yourself heal... -Peredhil
  7. As Peredhil stands applauding, Elladan quietly points Salinye to a List on the Walls of the Pen. "It's a bit out of date, I think," says Elladan, "but since Dad used to be the Elder of Lists, I don't want him to find out." "Bravo!" shouts Peredhil, "Bravo!"
  8. Grand Idea. I think some of the newer members don't know just how bad some of the older members were when the older member's started... I kinda miss the insanity of the Weenie Awards, where anything went as long as it built somehow off a previous post... I look forward to seeing how you implement this.
  9. snicker...
  10. But isn't it stereotypical to apply the society's characteristics you know, or know of, to all societies? Good job.
  11. Nice. I wish I *could* hear the music. I'm hearing guitar in my mind.
  12. She stood alone in the crowd Watching him watch her And wondered what lay behind his burning gaze. He hesitated so very long She'd've spoken but she was full of fear Couldn't handle the rejection: just one of those days. They parted again into their worlds Same planet is what they share Fear of pain brings loss of joy: Life is such a maze.
  13. If only reality were as easy as fantasy loving... You don't tend to write long poems, but you do tend to write poems to which I can relate or at least understand.
  14. You realize of course, only the intelligent can suffer all the nuances of rainbow pain. Without the ability to perceive, there is a binary state - pain or no pain. When you're smart, you can be truly broken in so many ways - some of which are done inadvertantly by the unwitting who can't even see or understand why you've been hurt (because they wouldn't be). Peredhil, realizing he's in one of his rare curmudgeon moods, falls silent. Hugs instead
  15. If I could have one supernatural ability... It would be to be able to have at will the body and/or the abilities and/or the equipment and/or the powers of any character or characters who has appeared in a comic book and to have whatever is taken from said character(s) would work. ~~~ Take your life in your own hands and what happens? A terrible thing: no one to blame. ~ Erica Jong We have forty million reasons for failure, but not a single excuse. ~ Rudyard Kipling They always say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself. ~ Andy Warhol We must exchange the philosophy of excuse for the philosophy of responsibility. ~ Barbara Jordan
  16. I think I like this incarnation best of those I've seen. I would quote some of the most striking lines, but I'd have to cut and paste much of the poem. I think you're getting deeper as a poet.
  17. Begins laughing Heh, I didn't know anyone knew I wrote something OTHER than poems. I was surprised to see some of my works from the past, and pleased people still find them meaningful. puts on his Almost Dragonic brand running shoes to go chase his Muse and stands a while trying to figure out how to use the rocket propulsion feature. With a sudden enlightenment, he flicks his zippo and lights the short fuse sticking from the back of each shoe...
  18. The living past is just a lie for past is dead to all it's skeletal claw tries to catch the eye walking backward will make you fall Learn from cold dead past and take the lesson to your heart Change yourself and make it fast Every thought's an opportunity to start. The greatest trap is to want to change All the world and not change you Believe the others aren't deranged And change you'll never do. Most people stick with the hells they know rather than explore the unknown. Fear of worse pains that might not happen robs them of all the joys that will never happen without a bold leap into becoming a different person. As Erica Jong said (one of my favorite quotes)
  19. Pull yourself together don't lose your identity this situation you can weather stop, focus, hear my plea You aren't defined by others Unless you give yourself away If I had my druthers You'll live to see another day.
  20. The mask that pain wears, so as not to offend society A society that secretly wishes all pain to be deserved For then they needn't be involved, rise up to stop the madness which drives those with potentials to be destroyed. I liked the way you built increasing physical images of horror and pain, and then trumped them with the emotional to eclipse them all.
  21. "And a lesson that will be learnt..." If only the selfish and the abusive would read the cries of pain I read here at the Pen, and somehow transform inside. It seems too often that those who can feel and understand what others feel are the ones who do all the hurting. There is a lesson here indeed, and there needs to be a change in deed. I hope you can find healing somehow, or at least learn how to protect yourself against the abusers, and still open in love to the good.
  22. Did you mean, "I remember moving too fast" here? This is very lyrical and almost dreamlike. I really like the strange combination of "void happiness".
  23. Very cynical, but not a bad representation of a typical "politically correct" public school system. The generations coming up frighten me in a small way - with political correct thinking, the enforcer against free thinking is inside the children's heads, and self-enforcing. I took the liberty of cleaning up the spelling so that your message shines more clearly - keep writing. You have something to say.
  24. Oh, very well done!
  25. Peredhil makes a guest room for Soaring Icarus and give a key to the front door. Anytime - you should already know that. All change is stressful - give it two weeks. We miss you already. By the way - great poem.
