A new talent bursts on the scene! If you DON'T continue, it would be a crime! Good stuff so far. We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham

Peredhil flinches at the horrible words I think that, even retired as I am, I would find that someone spamming a site dedicated to improving writing would be... Rude. I'd prolly have to release Guido and Nuncio on them. Or if they persisted, allow Elrohir to begin moderating their account. If the Elders, who ARE active, didn't get to them first... Quote:...all I'd be able to say is "I like it" or, "I don't like it." speaking as a writer, sometimes that makes all the difference. Never be afraid to be the audience to whom we all play. I've been told I'm pretty good - but deep down inside, I still have trouble believing it. Sometimes, I wonder if anyone is even reading what I'm putting out there. Feedback is Good. Sorry if they were offensive or spoiling. They were meant to be parodies of the extremely cheesy and commercial Hallmark Greeting Card series, combined with a bit of a cranky mood. I was chatting with Gwaihir, who appreciates satire with a keen and ready wit, and tosses off a Hellmark Greeting. She said, "You should post that..." And here we are. I suppose the heavy commercialism offends me. That the original birthday was prolly in early September, around 4-6 BC, or that Christians are to keep Jesus in the top of their minds everyday, no longer observing days or seasons for a 'push' effort sours me more when cranky. This year, we're just having Birthday Cake on this day, and exchanging gifts later in January. My wife gave our Christmas money to a needy couple. I'm rather pleased that my boys are cool with that. Shows a good attitude and understanding on their part. Happy Birthday to Jesus, and Merry Christmas wishes to the rest of you. -P We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Holiday Extravagazza of the Dreamlost...
Peredhil replied to reverie's topic in Cabaret Room Archives
Christmas was such a wonder... Drinking eggnog the night before, staying up an hour later 'cause it wasn't a school night - but making sure to be in bed before midnight. And EARLY the next morning, creeping out just at dawn, looking to see what lay in the stocking (or the stocking lay on in case of an overlarge item). It wasn't for years that I noticed the stocking items were all attention engaging and silent. Waiting for Mom and Dad to get up. The year our eldest brother led us in the Christmas prayer (Our Parents, Who art in bed - Hollered be thy name! Christmas is come! Ribbons to be undone: Under the tree as well on the skirting! (As I recall Dad appeared, blurry eyed, and the start of the day was almost delayed wrathfully - but Mom came out and interceded. Mercy always comes through intercession.)) Starting off the day with the birthday cake, singing happy birthday to Jesus (a coupla thou' and looking good), then 'cause he wasn't Down Here, giving presents to each other in His name. Funny how that magic has faded through the years... -P We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham -
Thank you for the feedback. Actually, I didn't know that. I'm just as bad as anyone else here - I think I've yet to have written something I thought was worth posting, and it is always with a hidden fear that I click "add topic". I just know that I write because I must. Cut me and I bleed words. R.A. Salvatore said in an interview that his advice for young writers was to quit. If they can, they shouldn't write. I don't know that I'd go that far, but I understand what he means... For instance - I can't believe I'm allowed to post at the same sight as a Yui Temae, or a Zool, or an Orlan, or Tzimfemme, or Wyvern, or Andrea Hawk... Every voice here constantly blows me away as I read what you've written. It's a true honor to be part of this thing we call the Mighty Pen. Once again a leaden heart - If I didn't resist reality so much, you couldn't lie to me so easily. The purity of crystal outlook on life, shattered stained shards, tainted points of view like food coloring in water, affecting my outlooks and relationships with all others with whom I come in contact. Pain pulsating with every breath, each heartbeat a liquid fire that can be tasted in the blood a gnawing rat of belly pain emotion made physical by some alchemical transformation. But I am a Poet, a Word-Smith (not a choice but a burden). Given leaden heart, firey emotions, stained and jagged glass called life, I haven't a choice but to create Stained Glass Windows into my soul. What pictures will I make for others to see? Stained Glass Windows into my soul Are dull and dead to exterior view Without an interior light. Pour out the dampening pain Don't hold it within to quench the fire. Have the courage to display vulnerability, Don't draw curtains over Stained Glass Windows into the soul. We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham

M'Lord Kendricke - Absolutely! Some are just rougher than others... And some shatter rather than accept society's polish. Frond Dances a bit, and decides he's pushed that analogy as far as he can for the nonce.

doctrine or practical applications? Random thoughts, I'm pressed for time. As a self-motivating tool, if you can achieve any impartiality at all: When depressed, compare yourself to your peers. You'll normally come off 'not so badly' or 'wow, I'm doing okay'. When feeling too egotistical, compare yourself to you - that which you know you COULD'VE done, or would be capable of doing - if only... Many Western cultures have distorted basic Christian values into socially oppressive weapons instead of the freedoms which they should be (Different topic), however, one of these distortions manifests in the bizarre idea that "I should be responsible for all my weaknesses and failures, but not for my strengths and successes." After, one wouldn't want to appear egotistical or bragging, hmm? As a direct consequence the average Westerner has been trained to focus (when viewing themself) only on the negatives and limitations. As you love yourself, you love others... So too many cast stones and tear down (just trying to be helpful, but...) instead of affirming or edifying (edify == to build up). "He's getting above himself" with the logical social implication of: "We need to tear him back down to our level" rather than, "We need to support him so he can guide or pull us up, once he's firmly established." Intelligent people tend to have serious ego boundary problems, often projecting their abilities and emotions onto others. The "If I can do it, it's easy, prolly everyone could if they just tried, and it is not worth much, but if I can't, then I can respect it" mentality. Another limitation of intelligence is that is has nothing to do with emotional reality, except to perceive and refine definitions of HOW one feels more acutely. Thus the highly intelligent can REALLY become depressed over feeling 'petty jealousy' for instance, not only feeling jealous, but knowing that they shouldn't feel jealous, too aware of the implications and reactions if they act on the jealousy, etc, etc - and they end up turning it all inward and becoming depressed and short-circuit defeated, or expressing it anyway - and feeling stupid/guilty. Intelligence isn't a feeling - it's a comparison of a facet of self to other's similiar facets. Feeling are an entirely different arena, mutable turbulent and energetic. Thought feeds into feeling, can provide the reins that control the steed of emotion, but the harness must be properly attached and you should figure out how to adjust the straps for comfort. Enough rambles I suppose The limitations one knows Can be based on shared reality Or generate internally If head rules heart tyrannically A sociopathic robot you'll be, But if emotions wear your crown Your life will be very up and down. Wow, an excellent social commentary in poetic form. You know, I think you captured the ugliness of what many all too sweet appearing people think late at night. Very very good. You came to the Pen long ago as the girlfriend of a member - but you've sure carved out your own place all on your own since! Keep them coming.
