  1. Peredhil whispers That really needs no reply, complete in and of itself. I can't come up with anything worthy to match it at the moment... We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  2. Neato poetic response! such great comments by everyone - but I've always had a fondness for a poetic response to a poem - when done well. well done!
  3. I think this is the start of one of your best. Welcome BACK in a big way! More! I want MORE! Show those EQ twinkies of what a Planes Walker is made! Gets the popcorn and soda and waits to see what happens. We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  4. Feels like a song to me, even if it wasn't meant that way. Falcon, you just continue to get better as you go. Do you even realize how much you've grown since you first came to the Pen? I'm very proud of you. -P We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  5. Tiptoes in and sits quietly in a corner, ignoring the chills and goosebumps of good writing. Stilling his pounding heart and breathing through his mouth to avoid whistle-nose, he hopes not to frighten away a couple of his favorite writers come back after such a long time We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  6. Be patient with Wyvern - he has a LOT of irons in the fire, and is wanted in several countries for questioning about a few of them. I think they may want to know how he can possibly lose geld on some of these sure-fire schemes! But he always comes through. We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  7. Tolkien skipped the number 5 in the poem... There is no Hobbit Ring of Cheese. I admit it - I made it up! Muahaha!
  8. I know a NUMBER of people who should read this! Really good encapsulation of concept and translation of heart. hugs Keep 'em coming! We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  9. hands Gwaihir a cabbage for effort
  10. Have to watch out for those... You'll be missed! Come back soon. We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  11. I know! I know! It's found by taking the first letter of each line! This was the inscription on the 3rd ring of Hobbits Three Rings for Elven Kings, Under the sky Five for Hobbits, Deep in their holes Seven for the Dwarf-lords, in their Halls of Stone Nine Rings for Mortal Men, Doomed to Die One Ring to yadda yadda yadda. So we have Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WBFAAC AAEYHT SJOL -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Which in the Black Tongue of Mordor, instituted under Melkor, called Morgoth the Enemy, the original Dark Lord of whom Sauron was but a servant and master of werewolves - but I digress. Translated from the Black Tongue, it means.... Insert Drumroll here "I'm come over a bit peckish, Ring of Cheese, find me some cheesy combustables"

although I can't (mercifully?) relate to the subject matter, I can recognize the power of how it's done. You've a lot of raw talent. I hope the new year gives you joys to express, once you've made room for them.
  13. Wyvern - you continue to amaze me. the mind picture? Priceless...
  14. 'Bout time you applied. you BELONG here. -Peredhil We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  15. Laughs and thinks this thread shows just how fallable we all are. Sensitive to criticism, quick to assume offense. Maybe he was trying to help? For instance... it's spelled weird. I think criticism and feedback is an art we all must practice here, along with our writing. If that is agreed, then we'll have to practice not giving offense, and not taking offense. Hugs everyone and saunters away We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  16. very good...
  17. Actually it was written as a present for a friend reluctant to post here. But it was also written from my own experiences, the feeling all too common of being the outsider in the cold looking in at the party by the fire enjoying themself. But it was also written from the emails and private chats, finding that others shared my fears - some just cover it better (or are more shackled by pride into appearances) than I do. I'm an honesty junky, so I just say how I feel and what I mean. Saves time that way. Hugs everyone. I'm glad I struck a nerve! We've got our own party out here... We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  18. Peredhil saunters in and adjusts the cuffs on his suit. I'm with you Carlyan. There are some here at the Pen with the training, depth, and insight to provide critical feedback. (Wyvern, Zool, and Yui-chan spring to mind.) I've always been of the ADHD school of - It kept my attention all the way through. I liked it. It spoke to me in my way (the purpose of poetry in my opinion) and it's neat to find out how it spoke to you, the Poet as well. -which still seems to be okay. Don't be afraid to post feedback of the "I like it" kind. I, for one, appreciate anything! I think most do. Wanders out again.
  19. Laughs out Loud Hugs everyone Heh, the regulars at the IRC chat channel on galaxynet (#ThePen) all were good, and the rest got coal! looks thoughtful Do you think freezing families admonish their children before Christmas... "Go out and be naughty now! We need that coal!" We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  20. Peredhil wanders in to congratulate all the promotion recipients... And then wanders away, planning on how to put the new Elder to work Congrat Gyrfalcon! You thought you were busy BEFORE! We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  21. Wow there's such talent here I'm just not good enough I fear - Should I post? My grammar sometimes ain't too good And my spelling's just mizunderstood - Should I post? Some of these people are like gods to me They'll laugh and I'll die you see - Should I post? My life is hard and my heart has died I wanna die and my computer's fried - Should I post? If I post and they laugh or criticise me Or I expose my heart and they just don't see - Should I post? How am I to get better if'n I don't take the chance Anyway, they prolly won't give it more than a glance Might as well post. Some one read it and understood! They don't hate me for this mood My spelling's bad they didn't care They waded through it and rated it fair. I'm glad I posted! We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  22. good to see you writing again! I think anyone who's clothed someone in a mask of love, put it onto them, and had them fail to fit it and not really try can relate to this. Other people can relate too. keep writing! We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
  23. sighs romantically and wistfully Annael... you.... hugs and just doesn't find the words - but leaves with a smile.
  24. A long read but well worth it. Keep writing! I tried to enable your html (radio button to the right, between the subject and the text body) but it didn't work.
  25. Wow. I can see the goats and feel the grass. Brings back memories. The contrast with the end is even more shocking given the picture of happiness that came before. I think most adults fighting the meaningless of the Rat Race can find an echo of understanding in your closing paragraph. In my experience, the only meaning is in helping others grow into what they can be - not into self or society's expectations. Hang in there. Good work! We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham
